Privileged New Orleanians have a centuries-long history of escaping the city during these long, summer months. Insect-borne diseases, and other nuisances, made it something one’s life depended on.
These days, many in NOLA still head out of town when the the weather gets hot, and those that stay often bemoan how “dead” the city gets come summertime.
Well, while restaurants are less crowded and I can’t walk to the mailbox without having to change my sweat-soaked shirt after, I think there’s plenty of fun still to be had here, regardless of the month. Summertime is actually one of my favorite time for sports — crammed in between the end of Pelicans season and the start of the Saints.
